Royal Humane Society, small bronze medal (successful), (Alexander Chalmers, Dec. 8 1907) slight edge bruising, good very fine £100-120

‘On 8 December 1907, J. Galloway accidentally fell from the pierhead at Drummore, Wigtownshire, there being a heavy sea and dark night. Chalmers plunged in fully clothed and was successful in saving him’. (ref. R.H.S. case no.35781). Alexander Chalmers was born in Kirkmaiden, Wigton, and living in Kirkcowan, enlisted at Galashiels. Serving as a Lance-Corporal with the 5th Dragoon Guards, he was killed in action, France/Flanders, on 26 November 1917, aged 28 years. He was buried in the Orvil Wood Cemetery, Flesquiers.
