Memorial Plaque 1914-18, (John Alderson Cook), in card envelope, extremely fine £40-50

John Alderson Cooke (Cook on plaque) was born in and enlisted at Hull, East Yorkshire. He served initially as Private 6113 in the Artillery Training School and then as Private 202743 in the 12th/13th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers. With them he was killed in action, France/Flanders, on 4 October 1917, aged 37 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. He was the son of Mr and Mrs H. Cooke of Charnden, Bicester, Oxon and the husband of Annie Cooke of 36 Cheverton Avenue, Withensea, East Yorkshire. Sold with ‘Victory Medal’ forwarding slip addressed to Mrs A. Cooke, a silver locket bearing his photograph and a gilt watch chain bearing a small enamelled ‘E.R. of Yorks National Reserve’ badge.
