John Cawley was born at St. Mary’s, Shrewsbury and enlisted at Shrewsbury whilst living at Cross Houses, Shropshire. Sering in the 7th Battalion Shropshire Light Infantry, he was killed in action on 14 July 1916. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
