M.I.D. London Gazette 15 December 1942:
‘In recognition of gallant and distinguished services in the Middle East during the period November 1941 to April 1942.’

Joseph H. Wallace attested for the Devonshire Regiment, and served with them during the Great War, before transferring to the Labour Corps. He was granted an emergency commission in the Royal Army Service Corps during the Second World War, as Second Lieutenant on 23 September 1939, and was advanced War Substantive Captain on 24 August 1944, and temporary Major on 1 April 1945. For his services during the Second World War he was Mentioned in Despatches.

Sold together with three silver and enamel Football prize shields (all hallmarked silver), the first a Cornwall County Football Association Shield, the reverse inscribed ‘Junior Cup Winners 1923-24’; the second a Cornwall County Football Association Shield, the reverse inscribed ‘Senior Cup Runners-Up 1931-32’; and the third a Devon County Football Association Shield, the reverse inscribed ‘Sr. Cup Rs: Up. 1935-36.’
