G. E. Gifkins. R.E.); Defence and War Medals 1939-45; Army L.S. & G.C., G.V.R., 2nd issue, fixed suspension (852138 Cpl. G. E. Gifkins. M.M. R.E.); Special Constabulary Long Service, G.VI.R., with ‘Long Service 1945’ additional award bar (Sergt. George E Gifken [sic]) pitting, contact marks, and edge bruising to the Great War awards, these nearly very fine, the rest nearly extremely fine (8) £400-£500

George E. Gifkins attested for the Royal Engineers, and served with the 1st Field Squadron during the Great War on the Western Front from 15 August 1914. For his services during the Great War he was Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazette 22 June 1915), as well as being awarded the Military Medal, the latter most likely for operations during the Battle of the Somme. Remaining in the Royal Engineers after the cessation of hostilities, he was awarded his Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in April 1928.
