George Lasseter Penney was born in Islington, London, and resided at 5 Arundel Square, Barnsbury, London. He served during the Great War with the Royal Scots Fusiliers prior to transferring to the 12th (Service) Battalion, Highland Light Infantry. Penney died of wounds, 5 August 1917, and is buried in Longuenesse (St. Omer) Souvenir Cemetery, France.
