John Thomas Batstone was born in Kensington, London. A Clerk by occupation and a member of the London Cadet Battalion, he attested for service in the Grenadier Guards at Hammersmith on 18 January 1916, aged 18 years, 10 months. Serving with the 4th Battalion Grenadier Guards, he was killed in action on 10 August 1917, aged 20 years. He was buried in the Haringhe Military Cemetery, Poperinge, Belgium. He was the son of Mr W.W. and Mrs J. Batstone of 27 Abdale Street, Shepherds Bush, London. With copied attestation papers and other research.
