Henry Phillips was born in Marylebone, London. A Porter by occupation, he attested for service in the 57th Regiment on 28 October 1876, aged 21 years. Promoted to Lance-Corporal in February 1877 and Corporal in July 1877, he served in South Africa, February-December 1879. Confirmed as a Sergeant Cook in October 1879 and advanced to Colour Sergeant in November 1884, he was discharged on 13 April 1889. With copied service details.
