Lancelot Wood Nelson was born on 28 January 1877 and educated at Eton and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade on 7 July 1897. Serving in the Sudan campaign of 1898 he was present at the battle of Khartoum. In September 1898 his battalion was ordered to Crete, intervening in the Cretan Insurrection. 2nd Lieutenant Nelson died of Enteric Fever in Crete on 23 October 1898, aged 21 years, 9 months. Sold with some copied research.
