George Horne was born in Bristol and enlisted in the 5th Dragoon Guards in September 1848. In his subsequent career of 21 years with the Colours, he was present with his regiment in the actions at Balaklava and Inkermann, in addition to operations before Sebastopol. George died in service, at Leeds, in March 1870; sold with a pair of contemporary portrait images, one being a hand-coloured example on glass and the other in an old decorative copper frame, both depicting him in uniform.

William Horne was born in the parish of St. Michael’s, Bristol and enlisted in the 16th Lancers in January 1844, aged 19 years. In his subsequent career of 24 years with the Colours, he served in the East Indies for two of them, but witnessed no active service, his L.S. & G.C. Medal being his only entitlement. William, who was advanced to Sergeant in May 1860, was discharged in February 1868.
